BSA  TROOP 1020  PERSONAL  CODE  OF  CONDUCT
(January 2005)

All scouts and scouters are expected to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner and according to BSA guidelines. We want Troop #1020 to provide a quality scouting program to all its members. We need proper behavior during meetings and outings. To accomplish this goal, we are setting the following rules and guidelines for personal conduct and standards to be maintained by the scouts within the troop.

I. Scout Meeting are for Scouting. Many of the events and activities revolve around learning outdoor skills and other scout crafts. The meetings are not simply a social event — if you are not interested in scout activities, please choose another time and place to get together with your friends. Detractors such as magic cards, Game Boys, radios, etc. are not allowed at the meetings.

2. Treat all with Respect. All leaders, adults and scouts are to be listened to and treated with respect. This means obeying whomever is in charge and no name calling or harsh words offending another. Violence of any kind towards others will not be tolerated. All leaders — adult leaders and Junior leaders have the floor at all meetings. All scouts should be attentive and quiet at the meetings. All scouts should raise their hands to make a comment or ask a question. The Scout sign will be observed at all times. Bullying will not be permitted. Harassment by words, gestures, or physical intimidation of one scout to another is unacceptable behavior. The Scoutmaster will counsel any scout caught in one of these types of activities. If such behavior persists, the scout will be warned in the presence of his parent or guardian. Continued harassment will result in expulsion. There is NO TOLERANCE of bullying.

3. Treat Property with Respect. All church and other property that is used for troop meetings and events should be treated with respect at all times. Damage to property will not be tolerated. The scouts involved are financially responsible for any damages. We are guests wherever we are, and should behave as such.

4. Off Limits Areas. During troop meetings at the church, there are several areas of the compound that are forbidden. The meetings and your presence will be limited to inside the parish hall area or temporary buildings, playing field and the parking lot. It is forbidden to be in other areas of the school/church grounds without permission. Scouts are not allowed to play in the small children’s area because of the size of the equipment and larger size of the scouts. Use of the kitchen area requires you to obtain permission in advance 1mm the Pastor. Running through other areas of the complex without supervision is not permissible.

5. No Swearing. We do not expect to hear foul or insulting language at troop activities.

6. Be Prompt. Meetings start at 7:30PM and will end at 9:00PM on Tuesdays. Everyone will help clean up after closing so that we are done on time. Please be on time (Parents, this means picking up your son on time as well) All scouts should have their Handbook, notebook and a pencil.

7. Uniforms. Unifonns will be worn at all times unless a change is specified by the Scoutmaster. There are two types of uniforms:
-Dress (Class A) Brown shirt ( with appropriate patches, rank, council, troop numerals, American flag, office of responsibility, patrol, name tag, and red shoulder loops) scout pants, sash, belt and scout socks worn at Boards of Review, Court of honor and all ceremonies.
-Casual (Class B) Troop #1020 (or other scouting) T-shirt and scout pants or shorts to be worn at camp and during meetings. Hats are optional, however, only scout hats may be worn.

The scout’s behavior regarding these rules will be the deciding factor to determine if the scout has shown scout spirit for the rank advancement. If there is a behavior problem, the following corrective measures will be taken:

Incident #1: Verbal warning — 2 warnings and contact of parent- early pickup may be initiated depending on incident and regardless of location.
Incident #2: Conference with the Scoutmaster
Incident #3: Scoutmaster conference the scout’s parents.
Incident #4: Troop Committee Board of Review with scout and parent.
Incident #5: Membership termination with the troop.
